Can't Beat the Heat

July has brought heat and humidity so thick I can taste it. The most minimal of activities requires waterproof mascara, or no makeup at all, since it's quick to melt off my face. Straightening my hair is an effort made in vein, though I did just place an order for this humidity shield spray - we shall see if it actually makes a difference.

Mostly I find myself reaching for light, easy dresses, but I was feeling guilty for ignoring the rest of my summer wardrobe - skirts and shorts, tees and tops, all languishing in the closet as I cycle through the same three dresses in a feeble attempt to mitigate the heat. Not that it matters, the only coolness which exists is directly in front of the air conditioner, or the frozen foods section of the grocery store. So I might as well make more of an effort to give my skirts and shorts some love for the remainder of the summer.

  2. I'm entirely guilty of getting in a habit of pulling out dresses. Not that it's necessarily a bad thing, but I need to wear my other clothes too!!

  3. I HATE humidity with a passion so deep seated that it frightens me sometimes so I admire how happy and pulled together you look in it (I remember the personal hell (for me at least) that Connecticut summers were and here you are, just making it look so easy.

  10. I hear ya on the humidity. This is the part of summer that is so hard to enjoy. It's like I can't even be out when it feels like this. You look gorgeous in this cute outfit!

  12. I think I (unsuccessfully) tried to straighten my hair twice this summer. Now I have completely given up and either throw it in a bun or just let my natural curl shine! I need to remember to pull out some of my skirts. I've been unintentionally ignoring them lately!

  14. Your skirt is beautiful! Glad you could give it a wear, ti looks so nice and cool paired with the white shirt. I like how you knotted it :)

I tend to stick to dresses and shorts on frequent repeat in summer - it's the easiest option in a heatwave! I don't wear makeup most of the time, but getting into work without feeling like it's melted off my face when I wear it to the office is a challenge, haha!

Hope you are having a good start to your week! :) I have a quieter week planned after it was so busy last week!

  15. This is such a pretty black and white summer look! It's perfect for the high heat and humidity. That's how our summer has mostly been too, although this past week we've gotten a bit of a cool down, which has been nice!

  17. We have had some humidity here too but it cooled off the last 5-6 days or so, even as low as 65 degrees a few days ago. Your dalmation skirt and clutch are so cute. You always wear hats so well, too. =)

  19. While is has been absurdly hot this year, Winnipeg is rarely humid, which is what takes the pleasure out of the heat for most people, me included. Plus, everywhere is air conditionned. And I really forget what a luxury that is until I travel to somewhere that doesn't have much air conditionning, like Halifax, where I've spent the past five days. I was, as you described, sticky, avoiding make-up and doing my hair completely in vain. And it was a source of endless frustration but I impressed myself because I didn't give up. It looks like you haven't either :)
