Button Up Buttercup

High wasited jeans on short waisted people is delicate balance of proportions. Still, I had to have these jeans. I was in love with the button fly, something I've not had since high school (they were a pair of mint green denim shorts, and my favorite thing to pair them with was a finely knit lavender cami). When I saw them peppering the spring lineups, that bit of nostalgia was all I needed to click 'add to cart'.

I was initially intimidated by Gap's description of these jeans being 'super high rise'. I imagined something along the lines of Madewell's 10" rise version, however they are only 7" high, and that is only 1" more than their mid rise. The disappointment lies in the inseam length - these are a far cry from a cropped jean on my 5'-2" frame, and I don't trust myself to duplicate the frayed hem. Aside from that, they still feel like denim, but have enough of a stretch that they aren't 'standing room only' jeans. Considering they are currently on sale for $45, I'd say they are a good buy.

  1. I think you've pulled off the high waisted look brilliantly (lord knows I can't do it, ha ha). And I love the little neck scarf, it seriously looks so cute with this outfit.

  3. Cropped jeans always lead to a bit of disappointment when you're 5'2" - although I won't lie, I'm often glad just to get a pair of jeans that hits me at the ankle. I have quite a few pairs I've cut off to an actual cropped length in the past year, some of which already had unfinished hems, but none were quite as intricate as this, and I can see why you would be wary to try to redo it yourself. Still, even the ankle length is lovely. The button fly jeans paired with the silk neck scarf and updo really take me back to high school, I feel like minus the ankle crop of the jeans, I wore a very similar outfit to this one when I was seventeen and felt super stylish when I did.

  4. Even though the length isn't cropped, it still is a cute length on you! I love the button fly and the price is great too! I'm sure you will get lots of use from them!

  5. Ooh I like!!! And I actually like to buy cropped jeans so they fit me like regular ones, haha!!
Love the scarf around the neck too. Such a nice way to add some extra detail to the look

  6. I love those on you, and I like the length even if it's not what you were hoping for. I had my eye on that pair when I was doing shopping online but ultimately talked myself out of it--I didn't really NEED another pair of jeans and I'm just not sure that style will be very flattering on me. I'm thinking I may need to give them a try though!

  7. These look nice and I particularly like the way you have tied the scarf-
I unknowingly bought a pair of button fly jeans about a month ago ( now i wonder where they are, i think i did not even take them out of the bag..) I was in a hurry, they seemed to fit and i did not try them on, so when I got home i realised they were too tight and button fly. I remember this was a common closure for jeans years ago, one i was never too fond of. I thought they added bulk.
Now when it comes to length in my case, if i read "cropped"it usually means they are regular length and that i will not have to hem them !

  8. I typically stay away from high waisted things too. I have a short waist and they never look good. But those look awesome on you! I love all of the button. I also have an issue with length! Everything is always too long, and things that are cropped are a regular length on me.

  9. I love the different silhouettes nowadays, and it goes to show that descriptions can be so subjective..ha ha!!
I just ordered a cropped pair from Target, that is normal on my short frame too---but it's all good!!!
I absolutely love the scarf too, Lydia!! I'm not sure why but it's been my favorite way to wear scarves in the last year!!

  10. I really like these jeans on you! I have a similar pair from Madewell that I was unsure about as well, but they have become my favorite jeans. I can't wait to see how else you wear them!

  11. Cute jeans! It's hard to find a good, high waisted pair when you're petite.

  12. I love gap jeans. I have learned that their short sizes work better for me since I am just over 5'2. Old Navy also make a short option that works for my short frame too!

  13. They are awesome jeans on you! They might not be cropped as you expected but I do think that hem is fun and hits you at the perfect spot! :) Great that they were such a bargain too!

Hope you are having a good week so far! After being so busy last week, I'm enjoying a relatively quieter week and looking forward to the Easter long weekend.

  16. Love the title of the post haha. And you look great in this. Perfect look for going out and about. I am getting rid of all my low waisted jeans. I am all about the high waist trend.

  17. Ha! Your title.

I looooove button fly jeans too. I just bought a pair a few weeks ago and have worn them nonstop. I think these look great on you. The frayed hem is perfect with those metallic loafers {I need to add a pair to my closet}.

  18. Yes, love the button fly jeans!!!!! I bought a pair at Loft this past fall and I've never looked back. And the tassels on your loafers are perfection!

  19. I love the jeans. I've been considering ordering them too - I'm naturally high waisted, so I'm stocking up while they're still around.

  20. Loving the simplicity and practicality of this look dear! I like the button-up jeans, and that scarf really made a huge difference for the neutral colors. Such a cute touch.
