Sand between my toes

We attempted to go to the beach at Hammonasset State Park on Saturday. It was cloudy, then sunny, then cloudy, then threatening rain so we left after only a couple hours.
Then it rained all night and all morning so I had zero motivation to get up and get dressed today which is why I'm posting these iPhone photos from the beach and not what I wore today.

Obviously I did not bring my camera to the beach. I do realize that sand poses just as much of a threat to a phone as it does to a camera, so I came up with an idea to sand-proof my iPhone.

I took the phone out of the case and then cut a long skinny strip of plastic wrap. I wrapped it around the phone covering all the ports and buttons and then I put the case back on. It seemed pretty secure, and while I didn't test it out, I'm pretty confident that had I dropped the phone in the sand the dock connector, headphone jack and speakers would have been safe from the destructive terrors of sand.

  1. Such cool photos, even with your phone. That's a good idea the way you protected it. Gotta get creative sometimes!

I just love this checkered dress, you have definitely proven it is quite versatile from other posts I have seen.

  3. These are some beautiful pictures Lyddie, you can send the rain our way! We haven't had a drop of rain in weeks (from what I hear) and the temperatures have been way up above the 100's!

  5. Love that gingham dress as a beach cover-up! By the way, those pics that your brother took a few posts back are stunning. Although to my untrained eye, these phone pics look pretty good too.

  8. Wow, your phone taken great pics! :)

What a nice dress, I have had a thing for oversized shirts since I was a teen and only wore said items of clothing with jeans. :)

  10. Love the effects on these pics, and that gingham shirt is so perfect for a cloudy day at the beach.

Mind a question from a fellow CT-er? Aside from the impending rain, how was the situation at Hammonasset? I've been hearing some strange complaints in the past few weeks about horseflies making it totally miserable there, but none of it's first hand information. (Hammonasset's kind of a long haul for me, so I'd hate to show up for that experience!)

  12. I love the cover up! Your photos prove to me that it's not the camera that takes good picture but the girl behind the camera :)

  13. I always take my iPhone to the beach... luckily I've never dropped it in the sand. I didn't even think about all the ways sand could wreck it :( I'm unmotivated to get dressed today, but that's because it's 90 degrees. And I don't want to leave the air conditioning in the worst way.

  14. I like how even your iPhone pictures are better quality than mine. You are just surrounded by people who take great pictures! Unless you took those yourself too?

I always take my phone and camera to the beach, and amazingly, haven't dropped either. This is even more amazing when I take the dogs to the beach.

  18. the weather was wonky this whole weekend. I hate when that happens, its so hard to plan things so I end up just sitting around in my pjs watching movies. Glad you to spend at least a few hours at the beach.

  19. Sand: the great enemy of technology! My ipod screen is all scratched up because of it. My 17-50mm lens has a huge sand scratch down the center from a terrible decision to take it to the beach on spring break in Florida!
I love this check coverup. It's very cute and so beach appropriate! Also love the hat, and the hat that you wore on today's Flickr post!

  27. Way to McGyver that phone protector lady! And you're smart to leave the camera away from the sand for a little while! I have to admit, seeing those beautiful rolling waves makes me so jealous! I like Kansas and all, but it sure would be nice to have an ocean nearby!
