First Taste of Spring

We had our first gorgeous spring weekend, and I could not have been more excited to pull out this cute dress I picked up at Loft last fall. I'd only gotten to wear it once before it got too cold, but now it's long sleeves make it just right for transitional spring weather.

I've become such a fan of dresses with long sleeves over the years - how often do I struggle to find just the right cardigan or jacket to compliment a sleeveless dress? I wore this dress to a baby shower on Sunday and it was great being able to take off my jacket when I arrived and be perfectly comfortable. Loft actually has a very similar dress available now and it's only $35 - I need to resist!

Greige

Sometimes I wonder if I'm a failure as a fashion blogger. After all, I'm someone who purportedly has a good eye for putting pieces together and creating cohesive, yet unexpected looks. However the reality is that I tried half a dozen different tops ranging from olive green (likely would have worked with blue jeans, but not the grey) to windowpane print (I've had that top for three years and haven't worn it yet, maybe it's time to give it up) only to land on cream, the very obvious choice.

I suppose it's okay to not be as adventurous with my outfits as I once was, maybe I should take my new perspective on color and print as a sign of maturity. Though the truth is, there are some people who make bold style choices work and appear effortless. I'm just not one of them, and perhaps it's time to accept my middle ground approach and stop trying to make 'extra' work.

Where is the edge of your own outfit comfort zone?

Add a Scarf

I wore a version of this outfit while I was in California, on the day I took my sister's car in for it's service appointment so she wouldn't have to waste her Saturday doing so, (aren't I so nice?) and while I was waiting I spotted a woman wearing an outfit not too different from mine, save for the scarf tied around her neck.

I immediately cursed myself for not packing any of my tiny silk scarves, and admired how much the simple addition seemed to elevate the otherwise basic look of a white button down with jeans and a field jacket.

Square silk scarves feel like a relic of my grandmother's time, yet they have been working hard to become trendy again, popping up on handbags, as bracelets, hair ties, and of course tied around one's neck. While the one I'm wearing is a contemporary version found at Loft a few seasons ago, I have a feeling I'm going to need to track down some of the vintage scarves that were actually worn by my grandma and give them a new life.
