Old Loves // New Loves

I've been feeling somewhat discouraged by some of my old favorite summer dresses, which in the past just skimmed my hips, currently are straining. I'm not sure if it's this dreaded "now that I've reached my 30's my metabolism will fail to support ice cream every day", or if my poor eating schedule (eat nothing all day, then basically eat all three meals at once when I get home from work) as of late has something to do with it, but I can't deny the fact that some dresses I've worn for years just feel too tight.

When it comes to my body image issues, well of course I've got them in spades, but I've always maintained an equilibrium where I never weigh myself, and rationalize that as long as my clothes fit, I'm fine. I no longer feel fine. But at least I've still got some generously cut swing dresses hanging in my closet. This one from Joie, has always been a favorite since rescuing it from a clearance rack at TJMaxx some five years ago.

Each year it comes out again, brought to new life with new accessories, forgiving to summer heat and expanding derrières.

We wear white

Photos at the yacht club which were once my summer go-to now have become few and far between. But oh, that late evening light in July still can't be beat.

While I picked up this pom pom dress last fall on clearance from Shopbop, this is the first time I'm wearing it without any extra layers, and while I do still wish them hemline were just a few inches shorter, I'm still feeling quite pleased with this dress. It's white, which I love, made from a soft comfy knit, and adorned with whimsical poms and fringe. Next time I'm wearing it with heels though!

Itty Bitty Cacti

Rocksbox is providing me with a free trial of their service for the purpose of this post.

Back in 2014 I was invited to try out the jewelry subscription service Rocksbox, and this past week I've started working with them again! If you are unfamiliar, for $21 a month you receive as much jewelry as you want, three pieces at time. All the shipping costs are included, and you get $21 each month to put towards the purchase of a piece of jewelry if you'd like.

Many things are the same from my first foray into Rocksbox - designers like Gorjana, Kendra Scott, and House of Harlow are included in the inventory, and you can add pieces your most excited to try to a wishlist. New features include a preview of the box before it ships to you with the power to veto one of the items your stylist has chosen, and a new sale shop, where the slightly used jewelry taken out of circulation is sold at a deep discount.

For my first set, my stylist initially chose two pairs of earrings along with the Kate Spade Cactus pendant. I decided to swap one of the pairs of earrings and told my stylist I'd prefer to have three pieces that could be worn together, so she sent the Gorjana Joplin bracelet instead. I really like my whole set, the tassel theme is one I can get behind! As much as I enjoy the Wilde earrings, after a few hours they would start to bother my ears, so I'm going to mention to my stylist that I'd like earrings with either sterling or gold filled hooks in the future.

If you'd like to give Rocksbox a try, you can get your first month free with the code lydiaxoxo
