I love a long weekend... but I'd be lying if I said I was already counting down the hours until Friday. Not that it's wise to be wishing the days away, but the weekend days are so fleeting, and this was the first summer in a long time that I didn't manage to finagle a four day work week. I miss those, and I feel like I just missed so much this summer. I know it's mostly due to the passing hurricane, but this weekend was decidedly cold and fall-like, which has it's perks of lower humidity and not becoming a sweaty mess within five seconds of walking out the door, but knowing that the warm days are numbered makes me so sad.

The longest shadows

The time warp between Memorial Day and Labor Day has happened yet again, and while I must say I am looking forward to the long weekend, and probably to the sales, I can't fight the lump in my throat that happens with the realization of the days becoming steadily shorter and those pockets of cool air signaling Fall is on the way.

Aside from a pair of tickets to see the comic John Mulaney, my weekend is pretty open and that is perfectly fine by me. Sean and I literally made plans to visit friends in Boston and then canceled them because we didn't want to be driving far on a holiday weekend. Ideally I only want to have plans for one day on any given weekend, having a day to catch up on sleep, laundry, the blog, and the Netflix queue is essential for my well-being.

To those who celebrate, have a wonderful Labor Day!

August Budget

I thought I was being good this month, but two somewhat pricey purchases resulted in a pretty heavy bottom line.

I decided to partake in the Lilly Pulitzer after party sale for the first time and I had my sights set on just one dress, an eyelet lace shell shift dress with a scalloped hem (so predictable, aren't I?) With a list price of $298, the sale price of $74 seemed quite reasonable. This will be my first dress from the brand, and it might not even fit, but I figure I can always list it on eBay if it doesn't work out.

The Minkoff sandals you already know about, the brown sandals I'm still a little on the fence about. While I like the price, they are a bit higher than I normally wear and I'm not sure I want shoes that are more for looking at than wearing, I already have a bunch of those...

I'm feeling pleased I picked up the Banana Republic denim skirt when I did; I'd had my eye on it and after trying it on and seeing how soft and stretchy it was, I had to have it. It's replacing the denim skirt I already have that I simply can not wear if I need to be seated for any length of time. It was only 30% off when I got it, but I had some Gap Card rewards to put towards it. It's sold out online now, but definitely check out stores this weekend, as everything is 40% off for Labor Day.
