The Importance of Getting Dressed

While it seems like the end of quarantine as we know it is finally within view, I imagine the reopening will be a slow process, and changes to our day to day lives will likely be small at first. Over these last two months I haven't gotten fully dressed too often, but I at least embraced the routine of getting dressed, moving from nighttime pajamas into daytime pajamas (or loungewear, if you prefer).

Over the weekend I had a slip up; I stayed in my nighttime pajamas all day, and suffered dearly for it. The day started off well enough, I cooked soufflé pancakes for a Mother's Day brunch, with every intention of getting dressed before eating, but the process was slow and the shelf of the pancakes extremely short, so by the time we were ready to eat at noon, it felt like the window had passed and I might as well not bother changing. The combination of pajamas and mimosas resulted in a sloth-like existence for the rest of the day, later accompanied by a myriad of aches; head, stomach, back. In a futile attempt to reverse the damage, I chose a short yoga flow from YouTube at random, took a shower, and changed into a fresh pair of pajamas. Sadly, it was too late, my headache got worse before it got better, and my sister is mad at me for falling asleep five minutes into the episode of "Dead to Me" she'd put on.

The moral of the story is of course, to just get dressed. It's more the action than what is put on, and I have no excuse as I've added several new loungewear pieces to my collection these last few weeks. Also ordering more Cosabella bralettes, because I tried it, and underwire is just not happening right now.

  1. Such a pretty print on that dress!
I'm so used to not really getting dressed during the day that that aspect hasn't really affected me. It's more of not going anywhere at all that's getting to me. I need to start sitting outside for a bit but I'm always too lazy.

  2. I'm so bad at getting dressed, the majority of my closet has been on vacation. I really need to do better, you look lovely in that dress.

  3. That is such a beautiful dress and I like how you belted it! :)

I have been so lazy with getting dressed - just doing it a handful of times a week. It's been pyjamas or loungewear the rest of the time! Now the kids are back at school it's been a shock to the system having to get dressed again for the school run, instead of being in my loungewear all day, haha!

Hope your week is going well :) We are starting to slowly return to normal, they are hoping by July things will be more normal here and every couple of weeks they relax some restrictions more, I hope you get a plan like that soon! :)

  4. I've been "lucky" in that I do a daily Zoom meeting with my staff at 9 am so I'm forced to get up, dress, do a bit of hair and makeup, and then have that digital interaction. If I don't have other meetings that say am I back in my pajamas by 9:35 am? Yes, yes I am. But I did get dressed....

  7. As much as I am dying to be able to get out and live something resembling normal life again, I admit to being fascinated by all the things we are learning about ourselves in quarantine. Turns out, getting dressed is only important to me on the weekends, but if I miss a single workout, I'm suddenly miserable. The same goes for if the weather is bad, even though I'm not going outside so it shouldn't matter at all. Some things, like the exercise, I can control. Some things, like the weather, I can't. But I'm curious if all the things I'm learning about myself, and that we all are, will help us to emerge from this as more functional, better adapted people? Right now, all I know for sure is I'm going to emerge with a lot more leggings in my wardrobe :P

These days I am wearing shorts and jeans sometimes. The ones that fit. Because all 12 pounds i lost i have already gained back.

  9. That dress is so gorgeous! I have been trying to do the same of getting dressed from night pjs to cute loungewear. Gives some normalcy while still being comfy.

  11. I love this cane purse. I think you're right about getting dressed to have a more productive day. I'm starting to think that I need to purchase more comfortable dress clothes.

  12. Your dress goes with the blooms so well. And I get what you mean. Getting dressed makes you more productive, which definitely heightens the mood. I always get out of my jammies, but I just go into athleisure. As long as I get out of the bedroom then I've made progress, lol.
