Belated Christmas Tree

I'll blame how late Thanksgiving was this year, as that seems like the default excuse, but this holiday season has just been flying by and I'm not ready for Christmas to be just over a week away.

Due to conflicts in work schedules, we did not get our acts together to bring home our Christmas tree the first weekend of December, and didn't manage to get it until the 12th, which is late even by our standards (no Christmas trees up before Thanksgiving in this house) and then due to all the lovely snow you see here, the tree spent another day sitting outside in the hopes that the weather would warm and we wouldn't have to take a snow covered tree to melt in the living room. (That happened six years ago and it was just a huge mess.)

At least it's up, and that is one thing to check off the list, now to finish shopping, and wrapping, and maybe, just maybe, take a moment to appreciate the beauty of the season before it's gone again for another year.

P.S. These Target boots are not meant to be worn in the snow, they are neither waterproof, nor particularly warm. I might try to rectify this with some waterproofing spray and shearling liners, though I suppose it was too optimistic of me to expect a proper winter boot for $30.

  1. Such a perfect tree hunting outfit! Shame about the boots though, haha! But I'm sure the spray and shearling will help at least a little bit!

  8. Such a cute winter outfit! I like the colour with the scarf and it's a shame the boots aren't practical as they look the part in the snow - they look warm and cosy!

it's nice you managed to go get a tree too. We just have a plastic one we use each year, haha! Doesn't smell the same but it is much less messy!

Hope that you're having a great week :) I'm enjoying a relaxing day today as it will be a busy week with so many fun Christmas things planned!

  11. Love that you were able to find a real tree, even if you didn’t get to until late! I think we all felt a bit scrambled/rushed this holiday season’

  15. While your boots may have been impractical, they certainly do look the part! I can't think of a more perfect outfit for the season - this is really what I want to be wearing this time of year (but meanwhile, here in reality, I'm zipped into a knee-length parka most of the time, just hoping not to get frost bite.) It's so casual and effortless, but still perfectly holiday appropriate. And as for getting ready for Christmas, I honestly think I get more behind every year. We barely decorate and even so, I didn't put out a single thing until the fifteenth this year. Ah well - there's always next year ;)

  16. Love your boots!! I got a pair from Target last year and what a great idea to spray them for waterproofing and add shearling socks for warmth! I'm going to have to try that!

  24. Beautiful scenery Lydia, well at least you got a tree. I never got around to it. The only Christmasey thing at home was a peppermint hand soap. Hope you had a great holiday. Hugs.
