Luna

Last Sunday I joined three other bloggers for a fun meal at Luna Pizza in West Hartford. The family owned restaurant has been around since 1997 and have done their best to keep all the ingredients and methods unchanged over the last 21 years. They are a very family friendly restaurant, but offer plenty of options for anyone who enjoys a more adventurous pie. I loved the briny, tangy, kalamata olive and goat cheese pie, along with the white honey garlic, and the bacon avocado reminded me of a BLT in pizza form.

Since I don't go to the Hartford area too often, I took advantage of an otherwise open Sunday afternoon and stopped at the Westfarms Mall. In a world where it feels like malls are dying, this one was surprisingly bustling. Every store I stopped in had a line for the dressing rooms and checkout, and at least three strangers stopped to compliment my cherry shoes. They have been around since nearly the inception of this blog, and are probably the most 'whimsical' shoe I own. They don't come out as often as they once did, but it's nice to know they are still as eye catching as ever.

Summertime Sadness

It happens every August, as we are in the heat of the summer, suddenly there is this switch where all anyone can talk about is fall. And I watch with befuddlement those who layer on sweater and jackets while it's still 80° to have fall content.

But not here. Never here. It is summer until September 21st, and maybe a little longer, weather and photo backlog permitting.

Weather and emotion

A mixture of weather and emotions last week kept me from taking outfit photos. Seven days, not a single picture taken. Even worse is that when I try to think back to what I wore, other than one grey dress I happened to wear twice, every thing else escapes me. Is that what it's like to stop taking outfit photos; the memory of what you had on leaves your head the moment the day ends and the clothes get tossed in the dirty laundry basket?

Just like that, the last full month of summer is here. August. Even just to speak it, it feels heavy, thick with all the summer dreams that haven't happened yet, weighted down with fall on it's tail. How is summer always seems to move so swiftly while all the other seasons take their time?

White pleats in Wooster Square

Edit - The Haven Collective is now Vintanthromodern!

This week I have a very fun series of posts for you! I am collaborating with The Haven Collective, a local shop in New Haven, CT. Specializing in vintage fashion, The Haven Collective is also home to a pop up shop space for local artists, and offers crafting classes on Sundays.

Throughout the week I will be sharing some of my favorite pieces from the store, in some of my favorite places in New Haven.

Today I'm wearing a vintage white pleated skirt and carrying the most amazing snakeskin bag, borrowed from The Haven Collective. While I love the skirt for how easily it could pass for a contemporary piece, I'm obsessed with how unique the bag is. The hexagonal shape, the huge gold clasp, the fact that is is real snakeskin; all elements which make this not only a standout piece, but you would be hard-pressed to find it's equal in a store today.

I mentioned last week that I wanted a bit more whimsy in my outfits, so I paired the skirt and bag with stripes, my cherry pumps, an oversized hat, and headed back to Wooster Square, where the cherry blossoms had just passed their peak and the gentlest of breezes would cause the petals to flutter to the ground like a snow flurry.

White lace skirt

I picked up this lace skirt at Coco's on the Green in June when they were having their annual half off sale. That was the weekend I got my fabulous Ferragamo slides, and while I also tried this Miguelina skirt on, I put it back, deciding to just get the shoes. I left feeling good that I'd resisted.

The following weekend I got an email saying the sale had been extended. The next day I walked straight in, bought the skirt, did not look at anything else, and left. It was only $15, new with $200 tags, I could have done worse, right?

As for why it took me nearly three months to finally wear it, that I can not say.
