Peaks of the Week

I had been toying with the idea of starting this Friday summation type of post since the start of the year, but quickly realized that I could not cobble it together at 9 p.m. on Thursday night, and it would in fact require advance planning during the preceding week. My intent being to create a space where I might write a bit more, and perhaps touch upon the progress of the goals I set out for myself two months ago. Truthfully, other than exceeding my reading goals, no other advancements been made. But anyway, here is what I loved, lusted after, or otherwise enjoyed this week:

❖ My peak of the week was attending a blogger event at Jack's Bar and Steakhouse in New Haven, I got to sample lots of yummy food and drink, catch up with some of my favorite bloggers, and be introduced to a great restaurant I might not have otherwise tried.

❖ Last fall I saw Lo Moon when they opened for Phoenix at College Street Music Hall and while it was the first time I'd heard them, I was instantly hooked. These past four months felt like a long time to wait for their debut album to finally be released, but it's every bit as good as I'd hoped. Start at the beginning, or jump ahead to 'Real Love' first, either way, I promise it will be on repeat.

❖ I might be late to the party, but I'm kind of smitten with the Selena Gomez for Coach collection. While I've always proclaimed my love of vintage Coach and snubbed anything new they've done, I'm loving the take on a classic bag with contemporary flare.

❖ There is no reason for this dress to be in my closet, but I want it in my closet. I'd also love a pair of button fly jeans.

❖ I'm having a springtime crush on this combination of blush, olive, and grey.

❖ Courtney's post on "Looking out the Window Syndrome" really hit home for me.

❖ The only events I watched during the winter Olympics were figure skating, and I thought this article about skating costumes and why so few wear bodysuits was interesting.

❖ I really enjoyed Krystal's reflections on blogging now vs. blogging back in 2009. She posted a link to what her blog looked like in 2010 and the moment I saw her old header I really felt like I'd just taken a step back in time. I immediately had to punch in my own url and get all nostalgic over 2011 Chic on the Cheap.

❖ What if all stats and metrics were removed from social media? Would it feel like more than just an endless comparison game? This New Yorker article discussed such an experience after a installing a browser extension which removes all the metrics from Twitter.

❖ Chloe is now 18, and The Pain of Loving Old Dogs resonated with me.

I'd love to know if you'd like to see more of this kind of post in the future, and I hope you all have a great weekend!

  1. Wow, Chloe is 18? She still looks great!
Ahh and oh my, my original blogger blog was something! I'm still looking to redesign and jump back into blogging again. I can barely believe I'm still doing it years later!

  5. I saw those bags in the window and loved them. I didn't realize it was a special collection, so you are not late to the party! Fun post.

  6. Gosh, I can't believe Chloe is 18! That's crazy! And what's crazier is how long we've been blog buds! Geez, I can't believe how much blogging has changed and I do miss people being genuinely excited to share other bloggers' work.

  7. Oh that wayback machine is so fun - I used it and saw my old headless blog photos, haha! I tidied up my blog a little since with a better header and some social media icons, but otherwise it's pretty much the same, haha . So fun to look back on it. I used to blog every day, ha! I schedule in advance and only post 3 times a week now and that's better for me, who knows what I'll be doing in another few years!

Definitely keep doing these kinds of posts :)

Hope you are having a lovely weekend :) Going to be a little rainy here again but it should be a bit cooler too so I'm not complaining!

  8. I love posts like this! It's fun to see a look into your life plus things you're loving. Those jeans, I agree--I need them too! I always cringe a little when I look back at old posts, but they're also kind of fun to read. That's great that you got to attend a blogger event! Our local group hasn't done anything in a while, I hope they start back up soon.

  12. Oh wow, what a great flashback ! and I have been following since then...
I feel blogs are more curated now than ever and focus more on the new items and shopping. Before it was more like "ok this is what I have, let's get inspired and make the most of it".
And Chloe can finally get her driver's license !!!

  13. Blogging in 2009 versus blogging now - it honestly doesn't even seem like the same thing! I didn't start until midway through 2010, but my attitudes towards creating content, posting deadlines, projects and just, well, everything has changed so much since then. Although I must say, I did have some pretty good blog designs back in the day, but that was down to amazing graphic design friends - sometimes you get lucky ;)
