April Closet Additions

One month post shopping ban and I feel like I need another shopping ban. I held out nearly until my birthday (rationalizing I might receive some of the pieces I'd been eyeing as gifts) and then fell back into my old habits. I fell hard. The "I'm unhappy at work so I'm going to buy something" packages started accumulating at my doorstep, which ultimately resulted in even greater feelings of anxiety. Most of what I bought got returned, including a gorgeous cream and blush tiered lace maxi skirt, (because how much was I really going to wear it), four different pairs of shoes, five tops, two pleated skirts and a dress. I went a little overboard, no? Even still, there is a pretty substantial keep pile.

I also got some lovely gifted items this month, both for my birthday and last night at the Clinton Crossing Spring Preview Event, both Meg and I won navy blue bucket bags and $100 gift cards to go shopping, so shopping we did. I picked up a couple cute items at J.Crew Factory. More on the event next week!

  1. The first month after a shopping ban is usually the worst, particularly if none of the circumstances in your life that lead to shopping have changed. But at least you had the presence of mind, and strength of will, to actually return things you wouldn't get a lot of wear out of - I have to admit that it's only in very recent years that I've made my first return of a clothing item, despite having shopped excessively since my early 20s. I love that cream fedora you found on eBay - I've been missing my hat collection a lot since we've been in Europe, but I just can't seem to find quite what I'm looking for in a hat so far.

  2. I think my favorite thing up there is the fringed cardigan, it's such a fun piece that can take you all the way through Summer.
We all have those off months, maybe you'll be have more next month ;)

  3. I have that pleated Banana tank in black. It's such a cool piece. Shopping is a dangerous coping mechanism. I do it too.

  5. Ouch. Well on the bright side, you returned a lot of the items... my fave is the lavender top, the mules and the bag.
In my case, I have shopped too. Not much spent but still, its not only the cash but also the space it takes.

  7. Oh I love both camis you got. You got a lot of nice things! Dont' feel bad either, you did well not shopping for 3 months so it's understandable you'd go a little shop-happy when it was over. I'm an emotional shopper too so it's been trying to get that under control that's the hardest part of my shopping habit! Good on you for returning the pieces that weren't right when you got them home. :) Remember to celebrate the wins you've had rather than focusing on what you see as your failures - you're doing a good job!

Hope you are having a wonderful weekend :)

  8. I think it's hard when a shopping ban ends because there's this freedom to buy everything. You did find some pretty pieces!
