The carrot

Last Friday I lamented about how nice it would be to have my weekday mornings feel less hectic, so I started my week with a determination to make that happen. On Sunday evening I prepped for Monday; lunch made, outfit chosen. Even with the most time consuming part of my morning handled (deciding what to wear) I still didn't make it out the door until three minutes past my target departure time.

Tuesday morning, lunch was made, but I didn't figure out what I was wearing so Sean made me coffee and breakfast while I started at my closet, and I almost made it to work on time.

Wednesday I was more prepared than ever - outfit chosen, and steamed, lunch made, and I didn't even hit snooze when the alarm went off! Unfortunately by the time I got home that night I was so exhausted I went to bed at 10 p.m. without any prep for Thursday.

Resulting of course in exactly the kind of morning I wanted to avoid. Nothing ready, me steaming a blouse I then decide I don't want to wear, no lunch, no breakfast, no coffee, and still 10 minutes late for work. Thursdays are always hard for me, I seem to consistently loose my momentum after Wednesday, but without the weekend dangling like a carrot as it does on Fridays, I limp through the day.

Not a single night all week did I have the energy to sit down and blog, but on the up side, I managed to take outfit photos for five consecutive days, and that is something which hasn't happened since before the last clock change.

Next week I will try and do better.

  1. Aw damn. Well I think you made a hell of an effort. And maybe you will get it down next week. Before I had to leave at the crack of dawn for work, I had the same mornings so I totally get it. Love the poncho and hey three cheers for the weekend!

  2. Dayum. Talk about a complicate week. Regardless, this outfit totally rocks. I don't know if it belongs to one of the days you thought of it the day before or the same morning but you look fabulous: the boots, the silhouette!
Oh, and sometimes. Just sometimes I get inspired and put together 6 outfits in one night. Only to find out the day I wear them that they totally suck, or that I have gained weight in 3 days..

  3. I think it's the steaming that's setting you back ;) That sounds like a joke but honestly, when I finally gave up on not having wrinkles in my clothes, it was like a whole new world of possibilities opened up in terms of time. Alas I still rarely start work when I intend to and I don't even have to leave the house most days, so I am impressed by your efforts to say the least. And there is always next week to improve :)

  4. I loooove this outfit! This poncho is so fun!
And hmmm, not sure what advice I can give for getting out of the house on time. Ha ha. I always picked out my clothes and made my lunch and then I was fine. But that's because it took 5 minutes for hair and makeup and I rarely had breakfast.

  6. Ooh I love the leopard poncho, so fun! I know what you mean about mornings. It seems like even though I plan my outfits ahead, get my coffee ready to go the night before, and have a general idea for breakfast/lunch I STILL run behind every morning. Of course, I could get up earlier, but I just don't want to!

  8. You look great in this outfit! I love the pop of red from your bag. Mornings are so hard! I have to have my bag (including lunch) and outfit ready the night before or I will be scrambling in the morning. I hope morning next week are a little smoother!

  9. I had to laugh out loud when I read about your Thursday morning -- you know how many times I've steamed a blouse I ended up not even wearing? You sound like you're on the right track though! I can't ever seem to prepare my outfits in advance...

  10. Lydia,
This is a beautiful late winter outfit! You look great in it! That's so funny that all your prep didn't enable you to leave the house much earlier. I don't know why, but I have the hardest time getting out of time these days lately too! Well, good luck next week and enjoy your weekend!

  11. Well, don't beat yourself up too much over it, lovely. You can't have a super productive morning every morning! What's the fun in that? ;) Bah, but I understand what it feels like to stare at and outfit--more and more I'm wanting to be more comfortable all day instead of just cute for a few hours. It's hard to be both!

But you do it well. I love that shawl/cape.

  12. As my 16 year old would say, everything was going well until life happened. What can you do save roll with the punches and look towards tomorrow, right? :) in other news though, the poncho is GLORIOUS. And I adore that bag of yours, throwing an additional statement colour into the mix. I bet you stopped traffic that day :)

Incidentally, Lydia, I wondered if you received my email of the 7th?

  18. I TOTALLY feel you on that whole routine thing. I never pack my lunch and I know that I should. I used to have an hour on Sunday or Saturday to just plan out my outfits for the week and hang them on a clothing rack so I could see what I had and didn't have to think about it. But now that I am in the midst of some chaos, I am never ready to go like that and I am realizing how much time I waste because I don't prepare!
