Last of February

There aren't too many months where I greet their ends with more excitement than sorrow of their passing.

Yes, we are already two months into the year, but we are two months closer to spring, and I feel creatively spent when it comes to dressing warm enough to survive this winter. This resulted in more shopping than I would have liked this month, but it did yield some good purchases. More on that next week.

This weekend I'm looking forward to heading up to Boston and celebrating my baby sister's 21st Birthday. She makes me feel so old! What are you up to?

Spots and dots

It's strange to say, but I don't think it was until I actually looked at these photos that I realized I was having an insanely good hair day.

Whiteout conditions

While snow may be a perpetual thought on my mind as of late, today I'd like to focus on a far better bunch of white things.

March is just around the corner, and I can't help but day dream about warmer days and all the wonderful whites I'm going to wear.

Got my love to keep me warm

It was another ridiculously cold day, the kind of day where it's ideal to not even leave the house at all, yet I somehow convinced Sean to take photos with me at the beach.

For as much as I complain about the cold and the inconvenience of snow, I must admit, there is such beauty in it, and it's something I want to capture in my photos. So out we go, into the arctic tundra.

I can at least take comfort in the fact that I was not the craziest person at the beach that day; I was not going for a run in shorts.

Monday night is date night

Most people don't look forward to Mondays. The weekend is over, you have to go back to work, Friday might as well be a million years away, and there isn't even anything good on television.*

However, Monday night is my date night and no matter how I might lament the end of the weekend, I always look forward to Monday. Last Monday Sean and I celebrated Valentine's day and this is what I wore.

This little black dress was part of the Kirna Zabete for Target line that I scooped up off a clearance rack and I'm sad to say it has not gotten much wear. It's my fault more than the dress's - which has a great neckline, a unique textured fabric, and pockets.

Despite the freezing temps, I was resolved to wear a dress. Admittedly, the pumps were worn exclusively in the restaurant, I had to change into my snow boots to navigate the New Haven streets and the icy death trap driveway at home.

We had a lovely dinner at John Davenport's, followed by dessert at Union League Café, and drinks at Ordinary (all places I would recommend if you are in the area). I can't think of a better way to spend a Monday night.

*Living in the DVR bubble has made me completely forget that my favorite show, Castle, is on Monday nights. I just don't watch it until Tuesday.

Photos while it's blizzarding

Blizzarding is a word. Okay? I feel like these photos don't accurately capture the onslaught of snow I was dealing with, which is disappointing. When a person drives to the beach to take photos with a timer during a snow storm, that should be quite evident.

At least I had a coat with a nice hood to keep me warm; a coat I thought was gone, until I found it in a garbage bag while sorting through some of my sister's things.

I got this coat in 2009... I even did a blog post on it, though this was before I was taking outfit photos. When my sister went away to school three years ago she took it with her and I hadn't seen it since.

Once rediscovered, I revived the wrinkled mess of a coat with my new clothing steamer, brushed out the fur trim, removed the pills with a sweater comb, and finally went over it with a lint roller. Good as new.

Spring boots

White denim, dresses and bare legs. That is how I'm envisioning these boots. I have very little in the way of nude footwear, so that is where I kept my focus. Which isn't to say I don't love a good leopard print either, but if I had to choose, I'd go nude.

My two absolute favorites are the the Chinese Laundry and the Dolce Vita, and they are of course the two most expensive, (now that the Chinese Laundry has apparently sold out at Nordstrom Rack and unless you are a 9.5 and can pick them up for $98 at 6pm.com, you are stuck with $160 at heels.com).

Most likely I will hold out for the price to drop on the Dolce Vita boots, and then inevitably end up returning them, because that is just how it's been with boots and me as of late.
