Alterations needed

I love this leather pencil skirt. It's buttery soft, fits perfectly at the waist, and it only set me back $7. However I feel like it could be serving me better if it were either hemmed above the knee, or more tapered at the bottom.

Typically I opt to do my own alterations, but this isn't a project I feel I can take on right now when my current to-do list seems unending. I think if I can find a seamstress who isn't going to charge me the cost of buying a new leather skirt to make the changes I'll go for it; tis the season for leather pencil skirts after all.

  1. Yea, I agree, shorter or more fitted and the skirt will go from good to amazing! Just like with my $10 leather skirt from Coco's a couple years ago! :D

  2. What a great deal on that skirt...but you're right--the alterations would be more than you paid. Maybe just wait until you're not as overwhelmed to do it yourself? I vote for slightly shorter!! jodie

  3. I love a good leather skirt, and taking a good one to perfect does sometimes require alterations, sadly. Working with leather is no easy feat, so taking this beauty to a seamstress would probably be for the best... but finding a good one whose prices are affordable is no easy feat. I have to say, I know the focus of this post is the skirt but I can't help but be drawn to your sweater, the cowl neck, colour and thickness all look so perfect. What are the chances I'll find a similar one at Gap, I wonder? Probably none, but a girl can dream!

  4. Take me thrift shopping with you and teach me your ways! I can't believe you scored that for $7! Definitely worth getting it altered since you got such a great deal for it! I had an alteration lady in the town I used to live in who only charged $15 for most things. Now where I live, they charge $40! I'm on the hunt for a good but affordable seamstress.

  7. I love leather pencil skirts. I own one that I wore so many times last fall/winter. I think if it were a little above the knee it would be perfect on you.

  8. I have a leather skirt that fits me the exact same way. I have been debating getting it altered because I don't feel comfortable altering leather, but like you, I am nervous about the cost. I think I just need to bite the bullet because I would get so much more use from mine if it fit better!

  15. Wow what a score!! Good luck finding a seamstress that won't charge an arm and a leg to shorten the hem, I can imagine it would be pricey for leather.

Thank you for being a part of TBT Fashion link up and hope to see you Thursday.
