To the sole

Like many women, I have a love/hate relationship with my heels. I love how I look in them, but I hate how my feet feel after a couple hours of wear.

There was once a time in my life when I would not sacrifice comfort for style. I had some ugly shoes, but they got me where I needed to go. Now I am older and wiser and will happily deal with varying levels of discomfort to wear the shoes I love.

The one bright spot is that I've recently started to embrace ball of foot cushions. I'm not saying they make my heels feel like sneakers, but the improvement is notable and appreciated.
Do you have any tips for surviving in heels?

  1. Love the polka dot red combo here. I haven't really tried the foot cushion thing because I usually feel like they make my shoes tighter and more uncomfortable in another way. Maybe I need to size up and try again?

  2. Due to a strange foot injury from my ballet days, my feet are much more comfortable in shoes that don't allow the ball of my foot to move freely - which is why, unlike everyone else on earth, I feel much more comfortable in heels than flats. That said, foot pain to some degree is pretty much a thing that I've just come to live with and I just figure it could be worse. I mean, I could not be able to wear heels - that would be tragic. There are just so many cute pairs out there! I love these red ones on you, particularly paired with that polkadot blouse. I'm not much for polkadots myself but when you wear them, I think that could change.

  4. Well, I wish I had an answer for that… I'd be rich ;)
I tried 4 inch heels and failed. I tried 3 inch heels and am still making an effort.
If they get worn its usually at night, where I know it will not be 8 hours of wear, so it makes it more bearable.
Day time heels cannot exceed 2 inches for me, because I know I will be miserable.
Now, whatever the heel height, I commit. You will never see me take my heels off at a party and trade them for flats. They remain on until I am home.

  6. You know I love this shirt! Fabulous look all around! I wear heels pretty much every day and they don't really bother me. Maybe because I am used to wearing them? Anyway, I do have a few that need some extra help and ball cushions really do the job.

  7. I just take the path of least resistance and usually avoid heels aside from heeled booties and wedges that I have...but I use those ball things in my wedges and they definitely make them more bearable!

  10. Foot cushions certainly help. I usually wear fun flats unless I'm going some place that really requires fabulousness. Then I'll grin and bear the heel pain.

Anyway, this entire look -- not just the shoes -- is absolutely everything!

  12. I have been thinking about getting some cushioning for the balls of my feet but just never got around to buying them. I wear heels mainly in the office where I sit all day so I just kick them off my feet and that's why I don't mind wearing heels at all. Love these red heels with your outfit.

  13. I can get by with 3 inch heels during the day as long as the show is leather. I just find leather much more comfortable and it molds to your foot more. I need to try foot cushions and inserts though! I bet it would make them even better!

  15. This look is the perfect argument for "screw it, wear the heels!" You look perfectly sassy and cute! I think I've grown the opposite way; I used to wear heels more often but now I'm pretty much a flats girl. I know it's an "occasion" when I bust out the heels (that aren't low or wedges)!

  16. love the colour of those heels! :) I need to start wearing foot cushions more. I just don't like how they make it tighter at that area though.

  19. You've basically summed up my relationship with heels to a tee. Good foot cushions definitely make wearing heels more bearable for some time. The red heels you're sporting are so pretty, I love the pointed toe.

  20. I love the way heels look, but I have such a difficult time dealing with them any more. I like the Dr. Scholls high heel inserts, and if all else fails make sure to have some extra flats :)

  22. This is one of my favorite shirt that you own...I love the size of the dots! And I should totally start trying cushions, I 'm sure they would be a big help!

  23. Love this classic, beautiful look!! My trick is that once I find a pair of heels that's comfortable, I buy them in multiple colors :) They're difficult to find!

  24. If I'm going to be in a particularly uncomfy pair of heels for an extended period of time, I use medical tape to tape my third + fourth toes together on each foot (obviously the shoe has to cooperate, style-wise, so this doesn't show). Something about the tape compressing a nerve and making it so your feet don't ache (as soon as they normally would). I totally swear by this! :)

  25. I love polka dots on you. I usually keep a pair of flats in my bag if the heels are uncomfortable.

  26. I love the polka dots and red pumps! Sigh, I just suffer but have also ordered toe cushions and heel strips so hopefully they help!

  27. I love my heels too, although some are more comfy than others. I just read a blog yesterday about sole serum....have you heard of it? I might try a small bottle for that very reason. jodie
