Silk

If I had to choose a favorite fabric, it would be silk. I realize caring for it requires a little extra effort, but I also know that "Dry Clean Only" is actually just a suggestion. Trust me, woolite and the delicate cycle is just fine; a little ironing before wear and it will look perfect.

As much as I appreciate 'wash and wear' fabrics, there is something about silk that just makes me feel so much more chic, and when I can get a silk blouse for under $10 at ThredUP, well you know, it's what I'm all about.

I am participating in the ThredUP $150 style challenge. See my other looks here!

Flat out

Today I'm taking part in La Petite Pear's Fashionista's in Flats series. Flats are an essential part of my shoe wardrobe, for shopping, for travel, I just can't go all day in heels. Even to work, I like to give my feet a break a couple times a week and throw on a pair of cute ballet flats.

Since I think pairing flats with a pencil skirt is one of the most challenging looks to pull off and not appear short, (because I am short) that is what I'm wearing for this feature.

I hope you will go check it out, and thanks for having me, Sam!

What's in my Hobo bag

Today I am linking up with four fabulous bloggers for a "what's in her bag" post with Hobo!

We all have our essentials, the little things we can't survive the day without, which all say so much about us; not to mention the bag we keep them in. Of course I typically go for a more neutral bag, but sometimes it can be fun to carry something a little more whimsical, like this Phoebe bag in the hydrangea print.

Find out what's in my bag below, then be sure and visit Jessica at Bedknobs and Baubles, Laura at Laura Bear Design, Fran at Franish and Rose at Blonde in the City!

Sunglasses The classic wayfarers go with everything and are definitely my most flattering pair.

iPhone 4 (in a Kate Spade case) Clearly I can never be without my phone, and while this Kate Spade hard case hasn't been my favorite due to it's bulkiness and slipperiness, the cute factor out weighed the negatives.

Floss Good to have at all times, essential if you are on a date.

Hair Tie For the impromptu messy bun.

Lip Gloss/Lip Stick It's summer, so I've been wearing Avon's Coral Fixation a lot. The Clinque is a mini sized essentially clear gloss.

Safety Pins Nearly every wardrobe malfunction can be remedied with one of these babies. I used to carry around a whole mini sewing kit, but it got to be a bit much.

Measuring Tape This comes in handy more than you might think.

Mini R.S.V.P Pen So much cuter than the big ones, comes in all the fun colors.

Tissues I can not stress how important these are. I never let the pack run out before replacing it, and keep extras in my car too.

Magic Wallet Almost too small to be practical, but a good solution when carrying a small bag.

The Wallis fashion week competition ended last night, and while I did not place, I did get over 100 votes, and I want to thank all of you who supported me, because it means a lot.

This is how I might style this dress for early Fall, the trench is my go-to coat for transitional weather. It works well on it's own, but can be layered, and the length is perfect for dresses. It isn't too bulky and khaki of course, goes with everything.

Did you see how I styled it for summer?

Swiss dot

I have a bit of a white obsession. My collection keeps on growing, and I like finding unique variations of the white blouse, such as this swiss dot texture on this Loft blouse. At ThredUP's discounted price of $11, what is the harm in one more white top?

I also like the juxtaposition of the somewhat frilly blouse with the distressed denim and brown leather.

This week I am participating in the ThredUP $150 style challenge. See my other looks here!

Snowball

I love cotton shirt dresses for work in the summer, having long sleeves is great for when the a/c is cranked up, but outside I can cuff them. I can also see layering this in the fall, so I know I'll get several wears out of it this year.

This week I am styling my thrifty finds from ThredUP and even though this cotton J.Crew dress was a little more expensive than the lovely silk dress I got, $33 is still a reasonable price for J.Crew and as I mentioned, it will probably get a bit more wear than the silk dress.

Also, if you are wondering about the 'snowball' it is in reference to the flowers!

tiny flaw? i see nothing

When browsing ThredUP you may come across an item with an asterisk beside it, noting that the item has a small flaw, the details of which are specified on the page.

This thick, 100% silk Tommy Bahama top was under $20 because of a few tiny pulls in the fabric, and unless you are looking, you would never notice them. Don't let the thought of a tiny flaw deter you from a purchase, ThredUP has a 12 Point Quality Checklist, and style experts that triple check each item. If it's listed, you will be pleased with the quality.

just what i wanted

Lately I've seen a few of my favorite bloggers styling up cute short sleeved chambray shirts and had started looking for an option a little less expensive than the $75 (and sold out) J.Crew version.

Much to my delight, ThredUP had this vintage one from the Gap for under $10!

Be it vintage or contemporary, ThredUP has a seemingly endless inventory, and it's easy to use their search filters to find exactly what you want. To find this shirt, I selected womens shirts > button downs > light blue and was greeted by several chambray options. If you'd like shirt like this one, go take a look right now!
