Go Red

February is national heart month and over the weekend I attended a local Go Red for Women fundraiser dinner. While the food, music, raffles and company were fun and fabulous, there was also a forty year old woman from my town who stood up and spoke about how last February she suffered a heart attack, and nearly died because she ignored all the symptoms. I feel like most women would probably do the same because they are: shortness of breath, dizziness, nausea, back pain, jaw pain, pain in the lower chest or upper abdomen and extreme fatigue. Few of those symptoms we commonly associate with heart attacks, and most we'd probably just think to take an Advil and keep on going.

Even more frightening is that heart disease is the number one killer of women, so no matter what your age, please take care of your heart!

  3. Ooooh velvet leggings? LOVE! And the red & leopard combo is awesome :) I feel like I have some of those symptoms at least once a month - kind of scary because they are easy to ignore for sure!

  4. What a fun look and great event. Thanks for listing the symptoms - I can definitely see why most people would think it is just a minor incident and not get it checked out!

  7. You are right we never really would consider those symptoms as something to be concerned about. And she was only 40! On a happier note that peplum top is brilliant! Such a great colour for you!

  8. Love both looks! And truly a great cause! I think the symptoms also trip women up because they differ for men and women, and we mostly hear about the symptoms men get. A family friend found herself in the same situation but thankfully got to the hospital in time.

  9. Since my father and one of my uncles both died from heart attacks, I'm more aware of the symptoms than I think most people are. I hope that these campaigns are successful in raising awareness and preventing heart disease related deaths!

I love that red peplum top! What a glamorous piece!

  10. What a great post Lydia. You make an excellent point. We do need to care for our hearts and be alerted to warning signs of a heart attack. I love your red peplum top and, of course, the leopard coat.

  18. Yay for heart awareness! I hope I never have to see any of those symptons on myself in the future, 'cause I don't eat processed food and I ride my bike every day, so no worries hopefully! But I'm glad that you're keepin' people aware, Miss Lyddie. And your red outfit inspired from it is simply fabulous. Leopard and red are so very delicious together! <3

  21. Goodness, that kind of made me want to go for a run or something. It's scary that a lot of the symptoms can be so similar to symptoms of a stressful lifestyle (and seriously, who doesn't have that?).

In lighter news, can I just say you wear peplum tops so well! This red really suits you! And I'm still lusting after that coat...

  24. I'd just read about these symptoms of heart attacks, it was frightening since they are things you never really think of as being terribly dangerous. (The back pain especially! Sudden feelings of extreme doom were also mentioned which I thought was so strange.)
That all said, I how how structured your peplum top is, the seaming and the pleats are so pretty and flattering and the bright red color is gorgeous!

  25. Wow, wonderful peplum. And what a heartbreaking story. I'd probably be that person who didn't know....

  28. So gorgeous, Lyddie. Every time I see this jacket I have to fight the urge to run to JCP to get it for myself. I even did an online store check and they still have it. But I'm being good. Sigh.
