Rugged almonds

I'd been loving this Rugged Carats dress at Anthropologie for a while. When It went on sale for $60 I almost bought it. But I couldn't ignore the similarity to a dress already in my closet, the Leader of the Rack from Avon - purchased for $20 a year ago.

It's not surprising I love Rugged Carats, because I love this dress, and I've definitely gotten my $20 worth of it.

I know that 'rebuying' things I already have is a problem of mine. Which is the reason I have five variations of the breton stripe top in slightly different widths and sleeve lengths. Also four brown woven leather belts, all slightly different, the most recent being the one I'm wearing here, because I needed a cinch belt version.
I think part of the cause of this comes from the idea that I have to find the perfect one, but anything I find in the mean time is good enough to hold me over.

  1. That dress is remarkably similar to the Anthro one. I think you're doing the right thing by resisting (thus far) and restyling this one. Your current one is very lovely. And, maybe you're frequent purchasing of similar items just shows your consistency and fully developed sense of personal style. Hey, you know what you like! That's a good thing!

  2. I love the dress combined with blue cardigan and the belt really ties everything together!

  5. i always have to stop myself from buying black cardigans. When I see a deal, I need to have it, because black cardigans are like socks to me.

  6. I would do the same and stick with the $20 dress.:D

  7. I can't believe you got that dress for $20. It is so pretty and looks great with the sweater and belt. Good grief your pics have been off the chain lately.

Isn't it interesting how we return to our faves and are inclined to buy over and over? I have a closet full of grey sweaters to prove it. oy

  8. what a perfect outfit, I love it when you wear your cardigans cinched. This month I've thought about using my money to buy something for 4 little brothers at my school, but I must say it's hard not to think about the goodies I could get with that money. Geez I'm so materialistic =S

  11. I quite dislike wide belts, but you are working it here!

  12. I have about seven versions of the same cardigan, so I feel ya, sister.

As for belts, each outfit has specific belting needs, so I don't think it's crazy to have several!

  13. I understand what you mean...I sometimes tend to buy things that are pretty much doppelgangers of things I already have, but they are one inch closer to being that perfect item.

I really like the intricate print on the dress, and that blue color is very pretty on you.

  14. Avon sells clothes? Really? Wow, how did I not know that? Cute outfit, especially the print on the dress. And I can definitely understand settling for things until you find that perfect item - that's probably why my closet is so jam-packed!

  17. I agree with Vanessa - I reckon it's a mark of personal style that you keep gravitating toward the same aesthetic. And in my opinion, one can never have too many brown woven belts! I have to say, I like your dress better than the Anthro one. Maybe it's because of how you styled it. The blue is unexpected but works really well.

  18. I have a bad habit of doing that too. It's why I own so many belts too, and they all have just minor differences.

Anyway, I love that dress on you!

  23. It's so hard to believe this is AVON...it is just as cute as the Anthro one! You styled this so well!!

  24. Love the pattern on that dress - Avon has quite a few surprisingly cute items. I also tend to buy multiple versions of essentially the same design...but only because I love the look in question so much that I always wind up getting lots of wear out of all of them.

  32. I INSIST ! you do not need to shop anymore !
I am certain that you have all - all the items to recreate all trends - already in your closet !
BTW I have always loved this dress and always think the same "Wao Avon ??"
AND YES, the damn car is in the shop again I am waiting for them to call with the $$ number and I am terrified. I love it, the car is fun to drive and is really cute, plus it's my dream car BUT I already have talked about selling it and moving on :(

  33. I can totally understand. Some belts I have are purely for decorative purposes (while doing some cinching) but some are just really for the purpose of cinching! I would not be surprised if nobody else got this!

I like the print on your dress :)

    ReplyDelete
  34. love this look and that cinch belt looks terrific on you. i seem to have the same problem as you in that i try to find the perfect pair of shoes or something and instead stumble on other "too cute to pass up" items.....

  35. i absolutely love the combination of the dress and cardigan. and i have a problem of "rebuying" things too! *sigh* trying to get better at it. :)

    cute and little

  36. AHHHH. Gorgeous. I love the print. I don't know why, but it reminds me of an exotic vacation on the mountains, or something. Yeah. I really don't know why. BUT ITS WONDERFUL.

And ah! I so know what you mean. I have the hugest infatuation with blazers. I have, like, 4 in the same shade of fuchsia. Healthy? NOPE.

  37. When I went to look at the Anthropologie version, it said it was sold out--so I couldn't compare. Could it be that you are responsible for this? If so, Anthro owes you one!

  38. I used to have a serious re-buying problem (hello 47 little black dresses...) but I'm trying to be better! I love bold prints and think they can be even more versatile than solids so I'm glad to hear you're getting your moneys worth from that dress!

  39. I like your dress better anyway! It looks really good with the blue long cardigan and I like this belt a lot too :)

  40. Like! Love the tone down neutral ensemble. I would also avoid buying things if I already have a similar item in my closet.

  41. The blue and brown combo here is just gorgeous. And I think I like this dress just a little better. It looks less fussy.
