Winter light

Taking photographs directly in front of the setting sun is one of my favorite things to do. I love the bright light and the potential for a bit of rim light and lens flare.
Of course, when you are taking photos without anyone behind the camera, there is a bit of trial and error involved in the process.

Sometimes you get photos like this:
too little

Or sometimes you get photos like this:
too much

But hopefully, if you keep adjusting, you find the perfect spot.

sun at my back
(I swear I still have hands, it was just really cold and these sleeves were conveniently long.)
a bit of flare

I love it when you get just the right amount of lens flare. (But I hate that green reflection, what gives Hoya lens filter?)

  3. The fur collar is a major vintage score! You need to live closer so we can go thrifting together.

(Did you do change the formatting of your titles recently or am I just uber unobservant? I like it!)

  17. I dont think people understand what hard work it is to take a great photo! Ive had days where they all look like crap and scrap the whole thing! These came out wonderful, great documentation!

  18. You've mastered this backlit photo taking! Mine always turn out much more like your second photo... too washed out, or like your first: A complete or near-complete silhouette. I need to work at it more, the problem is, there's so little time when the sun is rapidly sinking to keep practicing... and it takes me a lot of practice!

  19. Haha! I laughed. I have so many of those first two pictures when I take pictures it tis ridiculous. :D

  32. I've yet to figure out the winter light tricks also and it's really difficult in Ireland because the winter sun is so low on the horizon (I think that was one of the first things I remember noticing when I moved here - weird). Great shots! Yay for perserverance! (did I even spell that right?)
