Different Strokes

In December I went to a church fair and came home with a small pile of cool vintage jewelry. I told myself I was going to give the pieces as Christmas gifts, but I didn't.

I realized that my family (with the exception of my Mother) and friends are not funky vintage jewelry people. And by evidence of the jewelry I received, they are chintzy Kohl's jewelry* people. They also wrap things that aren't from Tiffany's in boxes from Tiffany's. If that isn't cruel, I don't know what is.

I guess I'd better deduct $10 from my budget for funky vintage jewelry, because the only person I could give it to who would enjoy it, is me.

*I don't think all jewelry from Kohls is chintzy, just what I happened to get. I know, I'm such an ungrateful brat!

Today is Little Christmas, and I raced out into the cold the other night because I though the last of the sunset looked very pretty with my neighbors Christmas lights.

  3. I love those earrings! Sorry about not receiving Tiffany's in the tiffany's box - that really stinks!

  4. My MIL gives me jewelry like that - you don't even have to show a pic, I know exactly what you're talking about. ;P I almost feel nervous about posting this out loud on the internet, I'd hate to offend her, but that stuff just is NOT my style! And that Tiffany's box thing is seriously just mean. MEAN!

  5. Those earrings are great - and I can't of much that's crueler than using a Tiffany's box to rewrap a gift.

  6. I also get jewelery like that from my mother-in-law. It usually goes right into the "donate" box. Those earrings you gave yourself are fantastic! The black and gold look great with the blouse you're wearing.

  10. Ewwww I know what you mean about chintzy jewelry, I'd much rather have funky vintage! And faking people out with Tiffany boxes is just mean! What a letdown.
I could totally see you commanding a boardroom in this look! Maybe the boardroom of a funky vintage company?

  18. Aww, LOL...that DOES seem rather cruel. I'm fairly certain I've received boxes of chocolate in high-end dept store bags before. Or something like that.

Hope you had a fab holidays regardless and happy new year!

P.S. I do that all the time...buy "gifts" for other ppl and then keep them. Don't tell anyone. ;P

  23. I'm not a Kohls fan, and there's nothing bratty about that. Vintage jewelry is the best, however, it tales some courage to wear some of the more elegant and flamboyant designs. You're okay in my book. : )

  26. Your outdoor pictures are fabulous.... the Christmas lights look specially beautiful. Your pics make me want to have a real cool camera.
    Now, WHY WOULD ANYONE give you a present in a Tiffany box- ?? That's a NO-NO !
Here nobody would understand if I gave them vintage goodies for Christmas, they would see it as something used, old and trash.
Yes, we have a long way to go.

  35. Hahaha, aweeeee! I feel you. Jewelry is one thing I need to pick out and just send to my parents with "get me this for christmas, I like it." Otherwise, terror will ensue.

You are so darling. I like those VINTAGE earrings of yours [ ;D ] and and your skinny jeans with boots are simply impeccable.

On a different note, you look fantastic!

  41. I don't want to sound like a complete jerk, but receiving lameo costume jewelry is the worst. I hate hurting someone's feelings by saying I don't like it and so I'm stuck with uglies. It's easier with clothes because you can always say it didn't fit quite right.

  42. Oh what a pity you have to keep all the jewellery to yourself!! lol! i am back to blogging from today, so come on over and say hi when you have time!!

I love this look; everything is SO fabulous. And I love the shape of the shirt - I don't really wear turtlenecks, but I should definitely give 'er a try!

  47. Wow, I love that top. So gorgeous and sophisticated. And I would have kept all these vintage jewelry too if I were you...hehe, those earrings are a darling find. I'm slightly horrified about the reboxing non-Tiffany's jewelry in Tiffany's boxes...but we've all got our own quirky family humor, right?

  49. My friend's family Christmas, everybody buys themselves a present, wraps it up and opens it on Christmas Day in front of everyone. I think this is the best idea ever...don't we all just buy what we ourselves like, anyway? And then we have to give it away :(. This past cracked me up, by the way...are you saying there was Kohl's jewellery in a Tiffany box? That is all shades of wrong.
