"Republicans don't wear vintage"

The shortening of days has been a concern of mine, in regards to photographing my outfits, which I'd been doing in the evenings after work all summer long. This was working fabulously until last week, when there just was no light at 6pm.
Since this is the last week before we change the clocks, it is also quite dark in the mornings, thus eliminating that option as well.

I decided it would be a great time to experiment with planning my outfits and photographing them over the weekend.

I must admit, there are some advantages to this, optimal lighting aside, I now have this weeks looks waiting and ready to go - no night before or morning wardrobe crises await me this week. And considering it took me 40 minutes to dig out the red scarf I wore today, I'm glad I got it done ahead of time.

Over all, it did take me the better part of the day to decide what to wear, put the looks together, photograph them, and then change and do it again. But I did have a chance to get the things washed that I needed, was able to hunt down the red scarf, and take all the time I wanted to craft my outfits.

And- AND I put together an inspiration calendar (of sorts) for November. I was feeling inspired by Fab Finds Under $50. I admire dedicated organization. Mine turned out to be kind of a huge mess. But I worked really hard to choose outfits that I think I can really create just with what is currently in my closet. I'm not going to post it (because it's an embarrassing mess) so I'll just post the photo when I create the look.

For today; one of Lucky Mags month of outfits features (fitting, no?)

"Republicans don't wear vintage"

republicans dont wear vintage

It occurred to me that I am once again, lacking important basics in my wardrobe. In this case, solid long sleeve tees for winter layering. I have three. Navy, black, and grey. But the grey doesn't even really count, since I've had it for about 10 years and it has a few small stains and a little hole in one sleeve.
I had to wear a red cammi, as it was all I had in red, but those thin little spaghetti straps under the jacket were leaving me feeling rather under dressed for the now 40° weather. This is a problem I should fix with a trip to the Gap. Soon.

My post title is a quote from the book Julie and Julia which I thought was hilarious. And I couldn't help but laugh as I thought about it on my way to vote this morning. I was wearing my thrifted London Fog trench as well!

  1. Loved Julie and Julia - the movie was OK, it's always the book that is better.
Your red shoes are fab :)

  2. Oh my gosh such a pretty outfit! So very classy and I love the colors and that gold belt. :)

&& yeah, I was actually planning on taking pictures this morning but.. it was so dark outside! Ridiculous! Silly light. I'm pretty lazy-- too lazy -- to take pictures over the weekend anymore. xD I am looking forward to your inspiration calender and what you do with it!~ That sounds like such a great idea. :)

  4. I'm worried about the light situation too. My hubby and I have been running at about 6:30 after work - but it's getting darker earlier and earlier! Not looking forward to the time change, either :(

  5. Ah, may be time to invest in some off-camera lighting on a budget - a 43" shoot through umbrella, light stand and some Cactus V4 wireless triggers. : )

Definitely not looking forward to pushing the clocks back, dark at 5pm here we come.

  6. You do look perfect for election day. I love the red shoes with the navy tights!

And I'm a huge fan of pre-planning outfits to avoid morning crises. Getting ready for work is a lot less stressful!

  17. I love the jacket and the red scarf! All these colours look great together. Yes, I will need to find friends willing to take pictures. I am buying a good camera and tripod as soon as I can.

  18. I was motivated to do an election day-inspired post today too! Great minds! Haha!
I love both the original "inspiration" look and your take on it. You're way organized to plan ahead both in the inspiration department and the outfit planning and photography. I have a fairly flexible job (most days) so I've been stashing my camera and tripod at work and taking photos during my lunch break. The noon sun is a little harsh, but at least it's not dark. Not sure what I'll do when it's freezing cold, snow up to my knees and too icy for me to walk safely. (I baby my camera like it's my, well, baby.)

  30. So chic, as always. That jacket is just fantastic.
I find that basics end up being the hardest thing to shop for. I'd much rather spend my limited shopping budget on items that rock my world.
