Thrify Finds

I finally found my perfect 'classic' trench! And I realized that thrift stores in the next town over are a hell of a lot less pretentious than the thrift stores in my town. At the thrift store closest to me, Sarah's Cupboard, they often have old London Fog trenches for $20. This London Fog trench was $3.50!

For once -and I never do this- I hemmed the coat, which fell past my knees, as soon as I got home. And then I got the always wonderful "Why did you hem it like that?" comment. But what is done is done, and I think it looks fine.

I love that it says to rinse it three (3) times, and that you can't let it spin dry, but you can put in the dryer.

Also picked up this adorable Lulu Guinness handbag for $3, but I'm agreeing to share it with my sister, because I am so nice like that. She didn't give me her $1.50 yet though.

It's a little dirty, but otherwise in good condition. Even still has the bag to store it in.

And as for today...

What to Hilliary Duff and I have in Common?

I decided to wear my super old peacock shirt, I got it my freshman year of high school. When the show Lizzie Maguire was on (I swear I never watched it, but my little sister did) in one episode Lizzie was wearing this peacock top! I got it at Contempo Casuals, though the tag actually says Wet Seal. Wikipedia says Wet Seal bought Contempo in '95, but the stores didn't convert to Wet Seal until '01 and this shirt was probably purchased right around that time.

  3. Oh my GOSH! WHAT A GREAT TRENCH! I did the same with a trench but I hemmed it below the knees and now I think I should have shortened it more, but yours looks out of the banana republic catalog! Even the color is great. Your skirt is super cute! I love it. =D

  6. Awesome finds! And, yes sometimes driving out to other towns to thrift can really be a change. While I love the little shops down the street from me, it is often nice to drive out to the burbs where the stuff is a lot less picked over.

I love love love your trench and that length is perfect- I've been looking for a coat like that for years!

  15. I really like that your hemmed the trench. Sometimes I find that trench coats can be REALLY long (and I'm a pretty tall girl). And you paid less than $4 for it, so why not?! It looks really good, and I adore just over-the-knee trench coats.
And I really love the peacock tee, and I know exactly what you mean about Lizzie McGuire. So many of the outfits were totally over the top, but there would be a piece or two (like your top) that's totally wearable. Even today, when little Lizzie's all grown up :)

  16. You had some really great finds at the thrift store! I always get such a rush when I find something I love and then it's like, under ten dollars, but that never happens for me. Seriously it's like seeing a unicorn.

I don't think you messed up the hem but shortening it, but I know the feeling.

  25. That trench coat was made in my city! :) Very neat thrift finds! I like the way you altered it. It looks just fine! Our Goodwill around here is pretty expensive too. I think they're starting to realize that not so poor people are buying from them!

  27. I'm so glad you hemmed the trench. I find trenches that fall below the knee to be a little frumpy and unflattering. This is so perfect and classic on you! And for $3.50?! You're the queen of deals!
